Pretty Birdsong

I'm now posting over at Pretty Birdsong

I've loved running Sparkle and Stripes, but it's time for a change. Enjoy!

Celebrating with Mezcal

My friend Cristina and I celebrated the end of looking for summer work today (I got a summer gig at The Village Voice and she is doing a freelance summer job for a magazine in Mexico) at Casa Mezcal in the Lower East Side. This place is so much fun. Mezcal is a smoky liquor that is made from the maguey plant which is native to Mexico. It's got a very distinct taste, and I highly recommend giving it a shot (though it's potent so be careful!)

Updates and Instagrams

{Philly skyline at sunset}

It's been quite some time since I last posted. Honestly, I just haven't been feeling up to it. I've been thinking a lot about the future of this blog, and I think the best thing would be for it to go from being a fashion blog to more of a lifestyle blog.

Don't get me wrong, I'm still crazy about clothes - just not posing in front of the camera anymore. I'd rather use this blog to document what is going on in my life. So rather than a bunch of outfit posts you'll see more updates. I'm still enjoying exploring this city, and I can't wait to share that with you.

Sort Of Spring

Spring has arrived, but not really. It's still quite chilly up in the Northeast. Alex and I embraced it nonetheless. I threw on my colored jeans and we hit up a record shop in the East Village. I'm on the hunt for a Dolly Parton record, but I came up dry. One day I'll find it!

When you walked in the sun today, it felt semi-springy. I'm hoping the weather warms up enough for me to bust out bare legs sometime soon. There's a whole section of my wardrobe just waiting to be worn again!

Yesterday I filled out my March madness bracket. I don't follow basketball at all, but it's become a bit of a tradition between my dad, brother and I to compete. Two years ago I won! I think it's an advantage to not have any clue as to how teams are doing -- that way you don't overthink it. I picked Indiana to win (I know Jessica over at What I Wore will be pleased about that!)

In the Trenches

Well my birthday came and went last week. I'm now 23. Doesn't time just fly by? This week is my Spring Break, and though I've got a lot of work to catch up on, I'm really enjoying the break from class. Alex and I hit the road and headed to Boston last weekend to visit our friends there. Their apartment is located in the cutest part of town. They proved to be great tour guides. We ate a bunch of yummy food, saw some amazing sites and drank in honor of St Patrick (but not as much as the rest of the city... it was rowdy out there!)
We came back to NYC, and it was snowing like crazy. With no food in the fridge for dinner, Alex and I ventured out to Caracas Arepas for an inexpensive meal. If you're ever in the city and looking for a unique and fresh meal, I highly suggest this place. I always go for the leek arepa and a glass of Malbec. You honestly can't beat that!

Oh, and speaking of food, I wrote a piece about my journey to find a breakfast taco in the big apple for the Austin Chronicle. You can read the article on their website here

Comfortable

It's been awhile since I posted, but I've been hard at work on this little video. I actually made it for my reporting class at NYU (I'm covering blogs for the class). We are learning about different multimedia, and needed to compose a little video. I had so much fun learning how to work Final Cut, make GIFS, and use a video camera in general.

 Enjoy!
